Privacy and personal information
Privacy Notice
Worth the Turn is an independent town-discovery and relocation-information platform. Branderval Investments (Pty) Ltd operates Worth the Turn and is responsible for personal information processed through the platform.
1. Who is responsible
Responsible party: Branderval Investments (Pty) Ltd, operator of the Worth the Turn platform in South Africa.
Business address: 26A Erica Road, Heatherlands, George, 6529, South Africa.
Privacy enquiries: hello.worththeturn@gmail.com. Please direct requests for Branderval's Information Officer through this address. Information Officer registration details are not stated here because their status has not yet been confirmed.
2. Information we may receive
If you email us, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name, email address, organisation, contact details and message. We may retain correspondence needed to resolve your enquiry or maintain business records.
Worth the Turn has previously offered website enquiry forms. Their public entry points have been removed. Existing records, if any, are retained in the restricted administrative database pending appropriate review and retention decisions.
The site also offers optional account registration and Google sign-in through the Base44 platform. Identity and authentication services may process account email addresses, login credentials or authentication identifiers. Do not send passwords to Worth the Turn by email.
Technical services can process browser, device, IP-address, session and diagnostic information needed to operate and secure the site. The Base44 integration includes an analytics tracker; the full scope of tracking, storage technologies and opt-out controls is being verified.
3. Why information is used
We process information as reasonably necessary to operate and secure the website, authenticate optional accounts, respond to correspondence, investigate reported inaccuracies, manage prospective commercial relationships, comply with law and improve the experience. We do not treat a general enquiry as permission to send unrelated promotional messages.
Where consent is required by law, it must be obtained before that processing takes place. Other processing may rely on an appropriate lawful basis under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), depending on the circumstances.
4. Whether providing information is optional
Emailing us or opening an optional account is voluntary. If you do not supply a reply address, we cannot respond to your enquiry; without the information needed for account registration, that feature cannot be provided. Public town guides can be browsed without submitting an enquiry.
Where particular records must be retained for legal, tax or regulatory obligations, those requirements may apply independently of whether you request deletion.
5. Your relocation and comparison inputs
The current relocation finder and cost-planning tools use information entered for the on-page calculation or comparison; they are not designed to create a personal lead profile or send your answers to property advertisers. Shared links may contain selected area identifiers, so review a link before sharing it.
6. Service providers and external links
Base44 provides the application's hosting, database and authentication infrastructure. Email enquiries sent to our Gmail mailbox are processed using Google's email services. If you use Google sign-in, that sign-in is also subject to Google's privacy information.
When you follow links to Google Maps, municipalities, businesses, property services or other external websites, those organisations control their own information practices. We do not control their sites or imply that Google Maps search results are Worth the Turn recommendations.
7. International processing and safeguards
Base44 and Google may process or store information outside South Africa, depending on their services and infrastructure. We do not promise that information remains in South Africa. Branderval is reviewing the applicable provider arrangements, transfer locations and safeguards under POPIA. Contact us if you require further information before supplying personal data.
8. Retention and security
We retain correspondence and existing enquiry records only while reasonably needed for the purposes described or where retention is required or permitted by law. A detailed administrative retention and deletion schedule for historic enquiries is still being established. You can request an individual review at the privacy email above.
We use available platform access restrictions and take reasonable steps to protect information. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure.
9. Your rights and complaints
Subject to applicable law, you may ask for access to information held about you, request correction or deletion where appropriate, object to certain processing and raise a complaint. Contact hello.worththeturn@gmail.com and tell us enough to identify the information concerned without sharing unnecessary sensitive details.
You may also contact the South African Information Regulator, including at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.
10. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the platform evolves. Significant changes to how personal information is handled should be explained before the relevant processing begins.
